Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports Bengals running back Cedric Benson was guarded in his first comments since Johnson joined the team. He said that he realizes that football can be more of a business than a game.

"I didn't know I was supposed to be jumping out of my seat or anything. I really have no feelings about it," Benson said. "They made a move they felt they needed to do, and that's fine with me. It's not going to affect me in any kind of way. Whatever happens from here on, I can guarantee you I'll definitely be making the best of it.

"In most cases you hold your fate in your own hands. I'm not letting up in any aspect of what I'm doing. I would imagine that I would continue to be the first guy, and if not, I'll make it that way."

Benson, who is sixth in the league in rushing with 859 yards, said he first felt pain late in the Nov. 8 win over Baltimore. He did not play the last three quarters of Sunday's win over Pittsburgh and would not put a percentage on the likelihood of facing the Raiders.

Chris Brown of Buffalo Bills.com reports there are numerous reports that the Bills have signed QB Brian Brohm off of Green Bay’s practice squad.

Brohm, who as a member of a practice squad is technically a free agent, chose to sign with the Bills last night per numerous reports despite being offered the same two-year deal by the Packers.

There’s little doubt that the uncertain situation surrounding the QB position in Buffalo convinced Brohm that he would have a better chance of getting on the field in Buffalo as opposed to Green Bay where they have a long term answer at QB in Aaron Rodgers.

Jeff Schudel of the News Herald reports if Browns owner Randy Lerner met with Mike Holmgren on Tuesday, he is not willing to discuss it.

Jim Brown, speaking at a luncheon benefitting Our Lady of the Wayside, told the audience:

"At this moment, right now Randy Lerner is meeting with one of the great football minds in this country," Brown said in remarks prior to and during the luncheon. "And if things work out, that person will come in to run the football side of the Browns."

Brown did not identify who Lerner met with, but implied it was Holmgren, the former coach of the Packers and Seahawks. In 17 years coaching, he had only three losing seasons.

"I have no comment on any matter related to the search to strengthen the Browns' management," Lerner wrote in an e-mail response.

Nicholas J. Cotsonika of the Detroit Free Press reports after former Browns defensive tackle Shaun Smith signed with the Lions, he said Rogers had spoken highly of the guys in the locker room and the staff at team headquarters in Allen Park.

"He wishes he could come back here now," said Smith, who was cut Sept. 5. "He misses it. Come on. You've been here your whole career, and you see the talent they're bringing in."

Rogers rarely spoke to Detroit reporters as a Lion, at least toward the end of his tenure from 2001-07. But he spoke to them in a conference call Wednesday and didn't quite shoot down Smith's claim.

"I just want to play football in the NFL," Rogers said. "That's been my dream and my goal. That's what I continue to strive to do, to play well in this league, wherever I'm at."

Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reports Cardinals defensive end Darnell Dockett said he didn't intend to hurt Seattle quarterback Matt Hasselbeck last Sunday by pushing his elbow into Hasselbeck's throat after a sack.

"I would never hurt Matt Hasselbeck," Dockett said Wednesday. "I have a lot respect for guys who come in, play week-in, week-out, broke ribs, play hurt. I take my hat off to him and I would never try to do that. It's kind of disappointing what the coach thinks."

Seahawks coach Jim Mora complained about the play on Monday.

Chris Metinko of the Oakland Tribune reports the Raiders and the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Authority announced Wednesday that they have reached a tentative agreement to extend their lease through the 2013 season. The lease had been set to expire after the 2010 season.

The Coliseum Authority, Oakland, Alameda County and the NFL must approve the agreement. County Supervisor Scott Haggerty, chairman of the authority, and Oakland Councilmember Ignacio De La Fuente, vice chairman of the authority, anticipate that the authority, county and city will vote on the proposal before the end of the year.

De La Fuente said terms of the extension are basically the same as the current lease, which calls for the team to pay $525,000 per season and share some other revenue with the authority, such as from concessions. The extension calls for the team to pay an additional $5 million over the additional three years. The team still would owe the $5 million if it moved to a stadium outside Alameda County.

Dave Spadaro of Philadelphiaeagles.com reports Brian Westbrook, running back for the Philadelphia Eagles, was evaluated today at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center by UPMC sports concussion specialists Dr. Joseph Maroon and Dr. Michael (Micky) Collins. Dr. Maroon is a UPMC neurosurgeon and long-time team neurosurgeon for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Dr. Collins is a UPMC neuropsychologist at the UPMC Sports Medicine Concussion Program, who works closely with Dr. Mark Lovell, the program's director, who is also involved in Mr. Westbrook's care.

Mr. Westbrook sustained a cerebral concussion on October 26, 2009 while playing against the Washington Redskins. He was out for two weeks and cleared completely from his symptoms when he was re-injured on November 15, 2009 in a game against the San Diego Chargers. At that time he experienced another much milder concussion which was not related to loss of consciousness but associated only with dizziness and headache.

The UPMC doctors report that Mr. Westbrook's symptoms have improved significantly over the last three days. He was re-tested today with a battery of neuro-cognitive tests, including ImPACT™ (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing), a computerized tool that is used by all NFL teams for evaluating injury recovery. He also underwent comprehensive physical and neurological exam, results of which were favorable.

"We are very encouraged by Brian's progress, we believe that he has an excellent prognosis and we expect a full recovery," reported Drs. Maroon and Collins. "We developed a comprehensive physical rehab plan for Brian, and we will repeat the detailed testing in the next two to three weeks.

"We commend the Eagles athletic training and medical staff for their diligent and conservative care in this particular case as well as their historical excellence in managing these types of injuries," added Dr. Lovell.

According to Denverbroncos.com, wide receiver Brandon Marshall did not practice today with a neck injury.

Jeremy Shockey said via Twitter everyone trust me Lebron James could not play in the NFL! espn is crazy to even think he could even make a practice squad. hes a 4.9 40 time. These comments were made after reports made that the Browns would invite LeBron to work out for the Browns.

The Associated Press reports the Oakland Raiders benched former No. 1 overall pick JaMarcus Russell on Wednesday, handing the starting job to journeyman Bruce Gradkowski for the foreseeable future.

Coach Tom Cable made the announcement of the change following practice as the Raiders (2-7) prepare to play the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Cable said this was not a temporary move, that his plan is to stick with Gradkowski.

"I don't want to be like that," he said. "This is where we're headed and what we're going to do. He'll take this team and go with it."

Russell was not in the locker room during the media access period and was not available for comment after the decision was announced. Cable said Russell was disappointed by the decision but worked hard in practice Wednesday
